Stow-on-the-Wold Gymnastics

Stow-on-the-Wold Gymnastics Club in Gloucestershire is your typical local gymnastics club.

With the fantastic success of the UK gymnastic team at the 2012 Olympics is it any wonder more children want to take up the sport and more and more parents are willing to take their son or daughter down to the local gym.

Beth Tweddle MBE won bronze in the women’s uneven bars final, but for a step backwards on her landing she would of won gold.

Louis Smith and Max Whitlock took silver and bronze respectfully in the men’s artistic pommel horse final; the first silver medal for GB in gymnastics since the 1908 London Games and the first silver individual apparatus medal in history. Again this could of been gold if the judging was worked out in a different way as Louis was actually tied on points with Berki from Hungary the eventual gold medallist, unfortunately after comparing execution scores - Smith was 0.1 behind the Hungarian.

Before that the men's GB team finished in silver position only to be later demoted by the Japanese on appeal!

They blew kisses to the crowd and thumped the air with joy after being crowned Olympic silver medallists.

Yet, in a display of dignity and sportsmanship, the five stoical young Britons refused to be disappointed and, as they stood on the podium, they kissed their medals and waved to their adoring fans.

It was, after all, the first podium medal for a British gymnastics team for 100 years, since the 1912 Stockholm Olympics.

Team GB performed fantastically well, but more importantly they showed the positive character that these gymnasts possess - a character which any parent would love to instill in their children, so if you are a parent who hoped to have their child competing one day - or just doing something that keeps them occupied then why not get them to Stow-on-the-Wold Gymnastics Club.
